Is Your Dad A Grumpy Old Man?

Posted in Books tagged , , at 3:22 pm by nibs007

Well let’s face it most of them are even when they aren’t old!!!
That doesn’t mean we don’t love them though! My Dad’s great but he loves a good moan about society today and is always harping on about ‘it’s not like it used to be…!’ Lets face it, it wouldn’t be the same if they suddenly became all pleasant and in touch with their female side!!

Well I’ve found a great pressie for my Dad this Fathers Day and it will compliment the MP3 player I bought him for Christmas.

‘Grumpy Old Men the Secret Diary’ on audio book is perfect! I know he loved the series on TV so he will love listening to the book as he does his gardening! So if all the World Cup merchandise out there isn’t for your dad either, have a look at this:

In painstaking detail, he takes us through a year in the constantly irritated life of a Grumpy Old Man, recounting the manifold vexations and absurdities he has to put up with in this perpetual torment that we call modern living. Drinks parties, holidays, hospital visits, his children’s misdemeanours, buying presents for the wife, watching television, attempts to visit the gym, trips to the shops, the trials and tribulations of daily life – every event has something to tip him over the edge. Stuart’s diary proves that grumpiness is not just an occasional mood or a temporary feeling, but a way of looking at the world, and will strike a chord with all those who are proud to call themselves Grumpy Old Men.

Yes, it’s a daily chronicle of life for the terminally irritable; an almanac of angst, read and introduced by one of the grumpiest of Grumpy Old Men, writer and comedian Arthur Smith. If you know, live with, tolerate or even are a Grumpy Old Man, this audio release is essential listening.

Getting Fit and Healthy with Audio Books

Everyone is pretty health conscious in one form or another. Most of us would love to have the time to work out or a take a brisk walk to get in shape. Having said that, many of us will find a reason for not taking exercise and quite often will put it off for another day.

For most it is possibly that there are not enough hours in the day and wish for some quality time to indulge in some ‘me’ time.

I decided some time ago that I was going to start walking. To be honest the thought of it didn’t really excite me in the slightest but I did think it was time for me to get out there and try and get fit like I use to be.

I hate any water activity; I don’t have time to go to the gym so this way I can do it as and when the mood takes me. So how was I going to do this? I see lots of people walking their dogs and that is great but I don’t have a dog! I use to enjoy walking with my children in their pram but at 6 and 7 they are a little old for that! Once I finished with all the excuses under the sun I went out with the company of my iPod.

For awhile I walked listening to music on my iPod and then I heard a friend talking about how she has been downloading audiobooks to listen while she is at the gym. There lied the answer  what a perfect way to exercise both body and mind.

I started with novels and have now found myself reading as many autobiographies as I can find. I just love it. I not only enjoy the fact that I am going for a walk but love that I have the time to read. It is funny now as I have had friends offering to come with me as they would rather walk with someone than on their own. I have found myself making excuses as to why I cannot go as I would be so upset if I missed walking on my own. I have recently started to increase the pace I walk and am soon going to tackle a run. Nothing too strenuous I can assure you but because I am enjoying the time out so much I don’t think that the pain of running will hit me the same as if I didn’t have the distraction.

The idea of exercise is now something I am quite open to. Even the thought of going to the gym doesn’t haunt me in the way it did. I am going to look into joining a local gym – take my audiobooks along with me and see how I go. I think that even I could get lost in a good book while working out.

So if anyone out there is considering venturing into the world of exercise take my advice and log onto www.simplylisten.com. This site has an amazing selection of books for you to download. No matter your preference I am sure that you will find something to listen to.
